Although I have made it quite clear on “The Love Affair Begins” that I am not entirely a designer, that doesn’t mean that I have completely disowned graphic design. I care a great deal about the field, and I am not too happy about what has become of it. Since I only have experience in Saudi Arabia, I cannot say that this applies to other areas in the world. What I am talking about here is the standard steps to create a “nice looking” design:1. Cool Photoshop tricks 2. Colors 3. Textures and/or brushes
Unfortunately, the advertising industry here is greatly affected by it. Design today is just something that looks good. When you look into it, it has no concept. Just add some nice colors, a photoshopped model, cool brushes and textures, and there you have it.
THIS IS A DESIGN.
So, who’s to blame here? Agencies and designers? Clients? Or is it the general public that accepts anything that is thrown their way?
If you consider yourself an artist/ designer/ art or creative director/ art appreciator, and don’t give a damn about what’s happening… Well, IT’S TIME TO GIVE A DAMN!
